Jelly Muscat (ジェリー・マスカット, Jerī Masukatto) is a posthumous character introduced in Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2. She was the wife of the president of the Free Lands of Gasco, Shayne Muscat and the mother of both Cannelle and Vanilla Muscat.

Physical appearance

She was a thin, pale grey felineko with short white hair, sporting medium length sidelocks and bangs. She used to wear a loose surplice dress and an overcoat.

History

Early Life

Jelly Muscat lived in Paresia, where she met and married a young political science student, Shayne Muscat. Together, they had two daughters: Cannelle, who would go on to join the Gasco Army and serve as General Merlot's right hand, and Vanilla, born sixteen years later, whose path in life would prove more complicated.

As Shayne rose to become the president of both Paresia and Gasco, Jelly remained a devoted mother. With the support of a close family friend, Cayenne Riesling, both daughters received a proper education, though Vanilla required more intensive teaching. Jelly took great pride in their successes and often found amusement in the knowledge her younger daughter acquired from Mr. Riesling.

Following the destruction of Paresia, and the defeat of the Berman Army Colonel General Shvein Hax and his monstrous superweapon Vanargand at the hands of the Taranis children, the Muscat family relocated to Pharaoh, where Shayne continued his presidency.

A tragic night

Six months after the war, while traveling with her husband, daughter, and Cayenne, disaster struck. A landslide collapsed onto the road, sending all the cars on the road plunging off a cliffside. The crash claimed nearly all their lives.

Amid the burning wreckage, Vanilla bore witness to the deaths of both her mother and Cayenne. Only Shayne, though severely burned and scarred, survived. He managed to carry Vanilla’s barely-conscious body to safety.

Jelly was later buried according to Anju rites, with her husband and daughter mourning her deeply.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2

Jelly is seldom mentioned by Vanilla in her grief, but her legacy is most clearly seen in the journals written by Shayne, Merlot, and Cayenne. These records detail their shared history and the upbringing of the Muscat children. Jelly is not seen otherwise.

The Truth

When Cayenne reveals himself to the children on the Exo-Taranis (including Vanilla) as the mastermind behind the Taranis' rampage and the completion of Belenos, he also confesses the truth behind Jelly’s death.

Shayne's policies, which facilitated the Berman Empire's invasion of Gasco, had led to the capture and execution of Cayenne's family by Doktor Blutwurst in the Mau prison camp experiments. While Shayne sought peace with Berman, Cayenne burned with a desire for revenge.

Determined to enact his own form of justice, Cayenne made Shayne, Jelly and Vanilla fall asleep while in their car, then used magic to trigger the fatal landslide. After the crash, he rescued Vanilla and hypnotized her into believing he was her father. Using illusion spells, he successfully impersonated Shayne for the next six months, exploiting the president’s authority to further his vendetta, aiming to use Jihl and the Belenos to reawaken the Vanargand to lay waste to both Berman and Gasco. He remarked to Vanilla that he'd gladly send her to meet her deceased parents in a mocking tone, before hypnotizing to set off a bomb inside the tank.

After the Destruction of Vanargand

Canonically, Vanilla survives and along with her friends, succeeds in defeating Cayenne and his reawakened Vanargand, finally bringing justice for his actions.

In the aftermath, Vanilla in a mourning gown and Cannelle visit their parents' graves, laying white flowers in accordance with Anjalist rites to honor both the passing of Jelly and Shayne, whom now may rest in peace.
