The Belenos is a pseudo Titano-Machina developed by Crusade to combat the ever growing threats and destruction brought about by Titano-Machina in the Old World. It is one of the tanks seen in Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2.

Appearance and Capabilities

Appearance

Compared to its sister, the Belenos bears a far closer resemblance to other Titano-Machina. The Belenos has a centipede-like head with a pair of scythe-like arms that contains its cockpit. As such, when in danger, the Belenos can retract its head into its body's prow to protect itself. The plating of the Belenos is grey with golden details, in a contrast to the Taranis' uniform grey.

Size

Its size is comparable to the Taranis (and its sister the Tarascus), being about 5 stories tall and having multiple large treads that make traversing any type of terrain possible.

Flight

The Belenos is equipped with multiple propulsion jets that allow it to fly and hover. These can be used for extended periods of time.

Terraforming and Resurrection

The Belenos' primary ability and purpose, as a direct response to the sheer number of unrecoverable wastelands created by fighting Titano-Machina during World War 3. It has the ability to store the "bio-data" of any deceased lifeform close enough to it. With that data, the Belenos can use its bio-energy to resurrect and regenerate anything and anyone within its range, a process labeled as "Phoenix Sequence". Unfortunately, this feature of the tank was never properly finished. It can indeed repair damaged infrastructure and landscapes, but actual living beings will be revived in strange and horrific ways. Even if it could properly heal living beings, it still has one limitation: it cannot revive anyone whose genetic data has fully decayed.

Auxiliary Generators

The Belenos can fit four auxiliary generators (Cunomaglus, Atepomarus, Vindonnus, Moritagus) that are designed to further enhance its abilities, but they can be repurposed to act as powerful offensive weapons if needed. The Belenos is also able to transfer energy to the generators to further empower them.

As more auxiliary generators are added to the Belenos, Jihl's emotional state becomes more erratic and destructive, allowing for more powerful attacks.

Assimilation Program

The Belenos has a hidden failsafe in case its pilot goes rogue. The program can remotely suppress the pilot's higher brain functions, functionally reducing them to a remotely-controlled drone/extra auxiliary core. Cayenne activated it to take over the Belenos for his own plan, once Jihl obtained all the generators.

Sun Cannon

The Belenos' primary weapon. It can be charged to fire a powerful beam, which can be further empowered by the auxiliary generators, reaching near-Soul Cannon levels of destruction with all four. Despite its power, the Taranis' shields are powerful enough to block it, even at full strength.

Emotional Response

Similar to the Taranis and other nanometal creations, the Belenos responds to its pilot's emotional state, to the point where it's possible to stall it mid-fight if the pilot is confused or distracted (this occurs in game when Malt taunts or distracts Jihl during awakening events).

Another example is during the first fight between the Exo-Taranis and Belenos. Jihl's frustration enables the Belenos to unleash a devastating attack which briefly puts the Exo-Taranis out of order, allowing for the Belenos to flee.

History

Old World

Belenos was an anti-Juno prototype weapon created before the current Taranis and was also meant to be used to fight the Vanargand before the Belenos Project was frozen. The tank's intended function was to act as a resurrection and terraforming machine, designed to heal and revive killed soldiers and bring life back to the land as a response to the destruction that had been wrought during the course of World World III.

Jihl and several other synthetically grown Hybrid children were designed to pilot the Belenos, but all perished during testing (save for Jihl). Problems also occurred with healing organic matter, as while the Belenos had no problem with healing metallic/nanometal structures, organic tissues would often become highly corrupted during the reanimation process. This caused the entire project to be canceled, as the horrific flaws in the prototype's design were unable to be fixed in a timely matter.

The Belenos was eventually stored in Crusade's underground "Temple" facility and abandoned, with its 4 auxiliary generators stored in separate underground "Altar" facilities throughout France. The remaining resources for the project would eventually be diverted towards the construction of the Taranis. The Belenos remained undisturbed for 2000 years.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2

After he gained control of the Taranis, Jihl fought his way through much of northeast Gasco. Aware of the Temple's location, he tore his way through Pharaoh, Lhassa Apso and Border until he finally reached it, fighting the Tarascus along the way. Upon doing so, he used its weaponry to mortally damage the Tarascus as it was teleporting Hanna inside itself, accidentally killing her in the process. Jihl left the Temple before the Exo-Taranis could give pursuit, and with Cayenne's guidance he went after the machine's auxiliary generators.

(work in progress)

The Belenos' fate has 2 outcomes depending on the game's ending.

In most endings, Jihl finds enough strength to deliberately overload the Belenos, causing it to self destruct. This allows the children to destroy the Vanargand now that its healing capabilities are lost, but at the cost of killing Jihl and and Hanna in the process.

In the true ending, Jihl finds the strength to free the Belenos from the Vanargand, crashing it in a field below the battle. The children are then able to destroy the Vanargand now that it has lost its regenerative abilities, and race to where the Belenos lay. They find that the Belenos has lost power and Hanna has been returned to her physical form. Though unseen, it is presumably destroyed/thrown into the Cloud Sea in order to prevent anyone from using it ever again, similar to the Taranis.
