Contrary to popular belief, nothing on the Internet lasts forever, so the wiki recommends that all editors attempt to utilize these tools when deemed necessary.

Archival Websites

archive.today

archive.today, AKA archive.ph and archive.is, is a simple webpage archiving tool that anyone can add to. This saves pages old & new and has no region block. It also allows users to search for previously saved pages under the same URL.

This is the preferred archiving method for static pages.

Wayback Machine

The most popular tool online for finding pages under specific time frames, hosted by the Internet Archive. It saves websites via their own crawlers rather than user input.

If editors happen to know or have a URL handy, they can paste it here and possibly find useful information that can be cited here in the wiki. Please note that not all websites are saved and that the Internet Archive goes under copyright and hacking vulnerability struggles frequently. Despite its popularity and usefulness, this should actually be a last resort.

In a case where an editor believes a website may be wiped from the Wayback Machine archives, which does occur albeit seldom, then they may instead use an archive.today snapshot.

Note that users will have the best luck finding archives of US-based websites as some countries ban the use of crawlers via data privacy laws.
