Waffle Ryebread (ワッフル・ライブレッド, Waffuru Raibureddo) is the main protagonist of Tail Concerto. He is a Caninu police officer from the town of Porto who is tasked with arresting the Black Cats Gang, the leader of whom is an old friend of his. During his duties, he pilots the Police Robo, a Robo equipped with a bubble shooter and a teleporting device.

Physical appearance

Waffle is a Caninu with cream-colored fur and light brown hair. He has upright, pointed ears and a curled, fluffy tail. While his specific breed of Caninu is never disclosed, Waffle is at least part-Wolf. While on duty, he wears a police uniform consisting of a light blue collared shirt with rolled up sleeves and a darker blue breast area, baggy dark gray pants, black lace-up boots, white gloves, and a backwards police cap. His shirt is adorned with a tie and the emblem of the Prairie police on each shoulder, and the emblem is also present on the front of his hat. While has tie is magenta in Nobuteru Yuki's illustration, it appears as orange in the game. His ears also have dark brown tips in-game but not in any key visuals.

When sleeping, Waffle wears simple blue and white striped pajamas consisting of a long sleeve buttoned shirt, pants, a nightcap, and orange slippers. As a child, he wore a white long sleeve shirt with blue overalls and a backward blue hat similar to his police cap.

Personality

Waffle is a responsible and courageous Caninu who enjoys working for the law. Despite his respectable mannerisms he has a slight tendency to get sassy with others. His spunkier side is physically shown through his backwards policemen cap, which when compared to other officers of Prairie seems somewhat rebellious. He is fairly oblivious to flirtatious signals, especially those from both Princess Theria and Alicia Pris.

History

Background

Waffle's history begins when he had first met Alicia during their younger years, where he gifts her a blue crystal necklace. The two would stray apart over the next few years, however, and Waffle would eventually land a job as a police officer for Porto's police force.

Tail Concerto

During a day off from work, Waffle receives a call informing him of the Black Cats Gang's attack on Resaca. This begins his adventure throughout the Prairie Kingdom, where he thwarts the Black Cats on multiple occasions, saves Princess Theria, and learns of the Titano-Machina named the Iron Giant. During this time he also comes to discover what the Black Cats are truly after - the five crystals that power the Iron Giant.

Solatorobo: Red the Hunter

Waffle serves a minor role in Solatorobo's side missions. Red Savarin first encounters both him & Panta during the "Reinforcing Patrol" mission where all three seek to drive out a recent wave of sky pirates around the Davren Islands.

Waffle is often seen chasing down the Black Cats Gang throughout the story, much to Alicia's supposed dismay. He also accompanies Mamoru-kun to teach basic safety lessons to the Basset orphanage in one of the game's downloadable quests.
